An Alcohol Addicted Individual Goes To Rehab And Receives Alcohol Detox And Rehabilitation For His Alcohol Addiction

Donald used to boast to his buddies how he could remain employed at a difficult and full-time job and get drunk as a skunk virtually every night. Unfortunately, after involving himself in this destructive lifestyle for just about three years, he started to experience several alcohol related problems.

As an illustration, he had a very difficult time getting up for work because he felt so worn-out when he awoke. Furthermore, virtually every morning Donald experienced a nasty hangover. Obviously, the combination of his hangovers and his lack of get-up-and-go did not make it easy for him to get up and feel like he wanted to go to work. To add fuel to the fire, around a week ago he received his third driving under the influence arrest in the past year-and-a-half.

To compound things further, at work his last two work appraisals were less than satisfactory. And lastly, his four-and-a-half-year relationship with his girlfriend had worsened due to his lack of patience, financial difficulties, angry outbursts, and his depression.

Though Donald was only twenty-three years old, he simply started to look like he was in his early forties. Unfortunately, this is what careless and irresponsible drinking can do to an individual. And from a realistic perspective he realized that he was suffering from the adverse outcomes of alcohol abuse or alcoholism and that he was too young to waste his life on abusive and unhealthy drinking. So at first he tried to drink responsibly and in moderation. Regrettably, he soon understood that he lost all control after having his first drink. Due to the fact that this was an incident that was repeated every time he went to a bar to drink, this concerned him greatly. In fact, he started to wonder if he was displaying some of the stages of alcoholism.

After discussing his alcohol drinking problems and his irresponsible and hazardous drinking with his lady friend, he finally made up his mind to schedule an appointment to see his healthcare practitioner. When Donald saw his healthcare practitioner, he sincerely stated that he has been drinking in an abusive manner, that he may be displaying behavior that is typical of the various alcoholism stages, and that he wants to refrain from drinking. He then declared that drinking responsibly and in moderation does not seem to work for him and consequently, he wants to learn how he can create an alcohol-free lifestyle.

Donald also told his doctor about his depression and how this mental health issue was adversely influencing his relationship with his girlfriend. His family doctor referred Donald to Doctor Venzel, a drug and alcohol addiction therapist, who inspired Donald to enroll in an alcohol and drug rehabilitation clinic as an in-patient for alcohol detox and alcohol rehab. Fortunately, Donald would also be able to get medical treatment for his depression at this treatment facility.

After six months of rigorous treatment, Donald left the in-patient rehabilitation facility and continued his recovery via outpatient therapy and via going to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Encouraged to change his life in a more positive way, Donald joined a gym and started working out three or four times per week. Within four months Donald was a new man. He was not depressed anymore, he was in shape, he was eating nutritious meals, and most significant of all, he remained sober for numerous months. He also did not resort to angry outbursts, he became more patient, and he became a more compassionate person in his relationship with his girlfriend. Stated briefly, getting and staying sober was the best decision Donald had ever made.
