Open-Air Flea Markets - A Goldmine Of Deals That You Would Never Discover In A Shop Or The Mall!
I've always loved going to the flea market. Outdoor flea markets are my absolute favorite, but I like all different kinds. It seems like my fascination goes back to when I was a kid. We used to beg my mom to get to go to this one flea market downtown. You see, there was mechanical horse that you could ride for only a penny! My mom and father would give us twenty cents each & let's go at it until we got bored. Then we would wander around, looking at antique jewelry, old photographs, weird arts & crafts, and all varieties of other assorted goods like plus size coats. We would not ever look at anything practical '" that was what my mother and father were there for. For us, fleamarkets were an exercise in the extravagance of our imaginations. We would try to think of weird things we could search for and try to find them. Not ordinary things like plus size coats, but really special items. Although we rarely found what we were searching for, generally there was some-thing great that surprised us.
As I have gotten older, I've seen a more practical use for The fleamarket. For children, flea markets are a place to run wild, and exotic & old-time fair specializing only in rare and sought-after treasures, but for an adult they are some-thing different: locations to get quality goods like plus size coats at discount prices. Unfortunately, all of the flea markets around here stink. To be honest, I have not seen a great out-of-doors market since I moved to this part of Tennessee. You'd think that such a rural community would have antique stores, discount markets, & other spots where people could exchange used goods & make just a bit of money off their second hands, but apparently the trend has escaped this particular county.
To some degree, the Internet has helped to make-up for the lack of flea market in the area. If I want to find discount electronics, low priced cookware, or even remaindered garments, I can get it on eBay or one of many other internet sites selling inexpensive wares. Nonetheless, I still miss the flea market. Purchasing on line, you have less choices. You are always taking a big risk if you purchase some-thing used, because you can not look at it. Predominantly, you're limited to knock offs, generic reproductions, & the like. Nothing beats being able to barter face to face with some-one, evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of a product.
